Here is an excerpt from the book: The Story of a Secret Part 1

We found out that nights were not like at home. I had learned a new feeling: fear. Nights were scary. I was thankful for the safety of our house and the comfort of my brothers and my dad. I was thankful that Michael agreed to stay with us longer. As far as I was concerned Michael knew more about what he was doing than my dad did; so naturally I felt safer with Michael around at night. At night when we looked out the windows beasts roamed. Beasts with misshapen heads, long arms with short legs, arms that hung low to the ground making their claws drag against the dirt, they made unnatural noises, chewing, howling, holloring, and growling. We could hear the beasts eating and smacking on things. They had different colors; some were furry with black spots and some look like rat demons; rat faces but men bodies. During the day the sunlight shined through the trees like in a beautiful serene dream and it made us happy, peaceful, and playful. In the light we forgot about what lurked and stalked in the darkness.
